Minority Caucus in the House of Representatives has urged the Federal Government, Kebbi State authorities, and security agencies to move swiftly to secure the release of 25 schoolgirls kidnapped by bandits in Kebbi State.
The appeal was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by Minority Leader Rep. Kingsley Chinda (PDP–Rivers), who condemned the November 17 abduction at Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in the Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area.
Chinda described the attack as a devastating blow, stressing that the victims—young girls determined to pursue an education and build meaningful futures—were seized by “violent criminals and social misfits.”
He drew parallels with the June 17, 2021 attack on Federal Government College, Birnin Yauri, where about 80 students were abducted and five teachers were killed, noting that Kebbi has endured repeated tragedies of this kind.
“The severity of this banditry affects the psychology, health, and security of the girls, their families, teachers, and the education sector. Speedy action to secure their release is paramount,” Chinda said.
He called on the Nigerian Armed Forces and all security operatives to work in close coordination to rescue the girls unharmed and ensure those behind the abduction are apprehended and prosecuted.
The caucus also voiced deep concern over the broader deterioration of security across the country, referencing recent attacks in Eruku (Kwara) and incidents in Zamfara, Kogi, Kano, Benue, and Plateau States.
“As responsible lawmakers, we will pursue legislative measures where necessary to address these security challenges and protect citizens,” Chinda added.
