Save the Children hosts Borno Children Parliament, donates working tools

A Non Governmental Organization, Save the Children has hosted members of the Borno State Children’s Parliament and presented computers, printer, laptop bags and other tools to the Parliament to mark The International Day of the Girl Child in Maiduguri.

The event which is being marked worldwide annually on 13th October, had in attendance children living with disabilities and schooling in Maiduguri.

The Deputy Director, Programme Operations, Save the Children, Borno State, Mr. Tadicha Chachi in his welcome address appreciated everybody and said that lots of achievements have been recorded over the last three years of the girl protection bill signed into law by the state government.

He thanked the Federal, Borno State government and House of Assembly for their support and cooperation for the successful singing into law the girl child bill.

The deputy director also pledged to support the voices of the children, amplify and make it heard all over the country and beyond.

He said: “It is a joint effort. We are seeking for support to accomplish the mission to ensure our children are fine to learn and achieve their full potentials to make them grow and future leaders and mother’s

” We support the children, ensure the rights of the children and maintain them. We also call for the support and effort of parents and governments to continue in this country”, Chachu said

The Borno State Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development Hajiya Zuwaira Gambo represented by the Director of Child Welfare of the Ministry, Hajiya Falamata Kaomi said that girl child issue is an exceptional and special issue at the ministry where every day the ministry engages in one issue or the other because of the importance that is watched to girl child.

“They are the future and our mothers tomorrow. We thank Save the Children for organizing the event and for recognizing the day of the girl child. I also congratulated all the children. I assure you that all your voices will be heard, ” Gambo said

The Royal Mother of the Day, Hajiya Bawagana Kyari in her remark assured of the continuous support to the girl child, stressing that, girl child rights issue stated from the family every where in the world, while pledging to ensure the protection , love, safety and affection of the children.

She also commended Save the Children for their efforts and support while charging them to maintain the tempo, recognize and respect religious norms and values of the children in the promotion of girl child law.
