Emphasizing the urgency of the process, Akpabio said it was necessary to screen and confirm the nominees promptly so they could begin their duties without delay.
In his letter, President Tinubu wrote:
> “I am pleased to present for confirmation by the Senate the four nominees listed as service chiefs of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Chief of Army Staff, Maj.-Gen. Waheedi Shaibu; Chief of Air Staff, AVM Kennedy Aneke; Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Adm. Idi Abbas; and Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede.
While I hope that you will consider and confirm the nominees, please accept, Mr. President, the assurance of my consideration and best regards.”
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), President Tinubu had announced changes in the hierarchy of the military leadership last Friday as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s national security framework.
