Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has criticised Nigerian music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, and the Adeleke political family, accusing them of placing personal and family interests above the welfare of the people of Osun State.
Sowore made the remarks in a post shared on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, where he reacted to the political developments surrounding the Adeleke family and their relationship with the Federal Government.
Addressing Davido directly, Sowore alleged that the family had attempted to balance its political interests in Osun State while maintaining ties with President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
“Now you know, @Davido. You guys thought you could have it both ways, opportunism and political hedging.”
He further claimed that the family’s political actions were driven by a desire to retain influence over the state’s resources.
“You want your family to keep controlling the Osun State purse while embracing the same monstrous Tinubu @officialabat establishment at the federal level.”
Sowore argued that the situation reflected what he described as a conflict between personal interests and public service.
“In the end, it is about protecting personal and family interests, not the interests of the people of Osun state or Nigerians.”
Continuing his criticism, the activist said political leaders should not claim to represent the people while maintaining relationships with an establishment they publicly criticise.
“You cannot claim to stand with the people while simultaneously cutting deals with the political establishment that has failed them.”
He concluded his post by urging Nigerians to draw lessons from the development and reassess the political figures involved.
“I hope the lessons have been learned. Nigerians should now know exactly who these people are, what they represent, and whose interests they truly serve. #ARINDIN #RevolutionNOW”
The post has generated reactions on social media, with supporters and critics of the Adeleke family expressing differing views on Sowore’s comments.
Neither Davido nor the Osun State Government had publicly responded to the remarks as of the time of filing this report.
