Super Eagles’ training camp in Ikot Ikpene has welcomed 13 players as Nigeria ramps up preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa, according to team media officer Promise Efoghe.
On Tuesday, nine additional players—Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Ola Aina, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Moses Simon, Chidozie Awaziem, Adebayo Adeleye, and Benjamin Fredericks—joined the initial group of William Troost-Ekong, Amas Obasogie, Felix Agu, and Raphael Onyedika, who arrived on Monday.
“We now have 13 players in camp, with the remaining 10 expected to arrive later today or early tomorrow,” Efoghe told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Efoghe also outlined the team’s media schedule.
“A press conference featuring the coaching staff and selected players is set for Wednesday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium training pitch,” he said.
“On Friday, the pre-match press conference will take place at the same venue, with the first 15 minutes of training open to the media.”
Still awaited are key players including: goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, defender Bruno Onyemaechi, midfielders Wilfred Ndidi and Frank Onyeka, and forwards Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Samuel Chukwueze, Cyriel Dessers, Christantus Uche, and Tolu Arokodare.
Nigeria, currently third in Group C with two points, will face Rwanda on Saturday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo for a Matchday 7 clash, followed by an away game against group leaders South Africa in Bloemfontein on Monday for Matchday 8.
South Africa and Rwanda both have four points, but only the group winner will secure automatic qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, hosted by the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. (NAN)
