Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas has signed three executive orders aimed at banning political thuggery, regulating mining activities to protect host communities, and intensifying the fight against drug abuse across the state.
The governor signed the executive orders on Sunday at the Executive Chamber of the TY Danjuma House in Jalingo, describing the measures as critical steps towards strengthening security, protecting communities, and securing the future of Taraba State.
Kefas said the executive orders became necessary to safeguard lives and property while promoting peace, responsible governance, and sustainable development.
Speaking on drug abuse, the governor explained that the executive order would reinforce the efforts of drug law enforcement agencies while encouraging a coordinated response involving government institutions, security agencies, parents, teachers, traditional rulers, and community leaders.
He stressed that his administration would not tolerate activities capable of destroying the future of young people in the state, assuring residents that every action taken under the order would be guided by constitutional provisions and respect for citizens’ rights.
The governor also appealed to parents, teachers, security agencies, traditional institutions, and community leaders to work together to protect children and youths from the dangers associated with drug abuse.
Addressing the executive order banning political thuggery, Kefas said the decision was informed by the approaching political campaign season and the need to preserve the peace and stability already achieved in the state.
> “The progress made by this administration in restoring stability can not be undermine by anybody, we know the supreme prize we have paid to restore peace in the state, both the security agencies, the traditional rulers and even at individual levels to restore peace in Taraba state.
> “Any attempt by anybody to disrupt public peace or the executive order to undermine the state’s peace would not be tolerated.”
On mining activities, the governor said the executive order was designed to ensure responsible and well-regulated mining operations while protecting the welfare and interests of host communities.
He added that the Taraba State Government would continue to work closely with the Federal Government and the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development to ensure that mining activities comply with existing laws and global best practices.
Kefas expressed confidence that the executive orders would improve public safety, strengthen governance, and support sustainable development across Taraba State.
