Senator Ned Nwoko and Nollywood actress, Regina Daniels
Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District, has accused a group he described as a “syndicate of pull-Ned-down” of exploiting his wife, actress Regina Daniels, amid reports of marital tension between them.
In a statement released by his Communication and Technical Action Team in Abuja on Monday, Nwoko said certain individuals were taking advantage of Regina’s current emotional state to malign him and damage his reputation both locally and internationally.
According to the senator, the coordinated attacks are being spearheaded by individuals such as Omoyele Sowore and Jebose, whom he accused of “hounding” him for years.
> “Beyond this, the talk about me grabbing lands in my hometown is false and unfortunate,” Nwoko said. “The truth is that I was allocated a piece of land for which I made a genuine offer of payment to establish the University of Sports — a project that exists today and serves the community.”
He lamented what he described as a recurring culture of tearing down people who strive for progress, saying,
> “Unfortunately, anyone who seeks progress in our society is often attacked and torn down by their own people. That is the sad difference between us and other ethnic groups.”
The lawmaker alleged that some individuals were now manipulating Regina Daniels, whom he described as “a young woman who is unwell and has admitted to using drugs,” to further a smear campaign against him.
> “Those exploiting her present condition to settle old scores will eventually face justice,” he stated. “They must also be careful with the defamatory statements they continue to make because they will be required to prove them.”
Nwoko maintained that there was no illegality surrounding his marriage to Regina Daniels, stressing that his only concern was for her to seek rehabilitation — a situation he claimed predated their union.
> “If by now she has not brought up any credible allegation against me, it means there is nothing illegal about me except that I want her to seek help for rehabilitation,” he added.
He further claimed that Regina’s medical history confirmed her struggle with substance use from an early age, pointing out that she had previously admitted to using drugs and undergoing treatment for bipolar disorder.
> “Her medical records are verifiable,” Nwoko said. “The enemies of progress are now manipulating her to achieve their aims. If she had any secrets to reveal, she would have done so. She has nothing.”
The senator also dismissed claims that Regina was underage when they married, clarifying that she was born on October 10, 2000.
> “If she has been married for six years, that means she got married at 19, not 17,” he said. “Her family gave her out in marriage, and her mother personally brought her to me.”
Nwoko emphasized that his marriage to the Nollywood star was conducted according to tradition and in full public view.
> “Our customs do not frown upon polygamy,” he said. “What I did was to marry her honorably, give her a name, and treat her with dignity. Beyond the social media lifestyle, my world revolved around Regina. I pampered her and cared for her deeply — something everyone who has worked with me across Delta, Abuja, and beyond can testify to.”
Describing the controversy as politically motivated, Nwoko said his opponents were using Regina as a tool to discredit him and frustrate his political progress.
> “Regina has become a weak point through which my political and personal enemies are attacking me,” he lamented. “This witch-hunt has been ongoing for years, an attempt to stop my developmental strides and tarnish me now that I am a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
