President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that the security challenges facing the country, especially in the North, will soon be brought under control through measures introduced by his administration.
Speaking on Saturday at the Third Late General Hassan Usman Katsina Memorial Conference in Kaduna through his Special Adviser on Political and Other Matters, Ibrahim Masari, the President paid glowing tribute to the late General Hassan Usman Katsina, describing him as a humble, disciplined and patriotic leader who served Nigeria selflessly.
Tinubu said the
late military leader made significant contributions to national unity and helped lay the foundation for the democracy and freedoms Nigerians enjoy today.
Reaffirming his government’s determination to restore peace, the President said, “While we continue to work day and night to secure our nation, by the grace of Allah, the challenges of insecurity confronting us, particularly in Northern Nigeria, will soon be behind us.”
He said the administration has also expanded access to higher education through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which has enabled more than one million students to obtain financial support for their studies.
The President added that the removal of tertiary institutions from the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS), increased TETFund interventions, teacher training programmes and investments in technical education had strengthened the country’s education sector.
Tinubu further said new federal universities and polytechnics have been established while major road projects, including the Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano Expressway and the Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway, are progressing to improve connectivity and economic growth.
On electricity, he highlighted ongoing projects such as the Kaduna Power Station, the 40-megawatt Kumbotso High Voltage Power Project, the revitalisation of the 215-megawatt Kaduna Power Plant and the expansion of solar-powered infrastructure in rural communities.
He also announced that the College of Petroleum and Energy Studies in Kaduna has been upgraded to a university named after General Hassan Usman Katsina, adding that the institution is over 90 percent completed and has already started academic activities.
The President said rail projects, including the Kaduna–Kano and Kano–Maradi lines, as well as the rehabilitation of the Abuja Metro Rail and Abuja–Kaduna train service, demonstrate his administration’s commitment to strengthening security, expanding economic opportunities and accelerating national development.
