Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has charged them to take responsibility for ensuring peaceful conduct of party primaries across their states.
The governors, who met with the president at the State House in Abuja on Thursday evening, said the directive was part of broader efforts to promote unity and stability within the ruling party ahead of upcoming internal elections.
The delegation was led by the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Governor of Kwara State, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, alongside the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma.
The closed-door meeting, which lasted about 30 minutes, focused on preparations for the party’s primaries and the need to avoid internal conflicts that could undermine the APC’s cohesion.
Speaking after the meeting, the governors said President Tinubu provided clear guidance on managing the primaries, emphasising fairness, transparency, and peaceful engagement among party stakeholders.
The directive is seen as a strategic move to ensure smooth intra-party processes and maintain stability within the APC as it prepares for future political contests.
