Tiv Cultural and Social Association (TCSA) has commended Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, and his Benue State counterpart, Hyacinth Alia, for their joint visit to internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the border communities of Wukari, Abako and Chanchanji.
The association described the visit as a significant gesture of solidarity and leadership at a time when residents of the affected communities are grappling with prolonged insecurity.
In a statement issued by the President General of the association, Chief James Bakah, the group noted that the visit came at a critical moment when several communities have suffered months and even years of security challenges. According to him, the crisis has led to the loss of many innocent lives, displacement of families, disruption of farming activities and worsening humanitarian conditions.
Bakah said the Tiv people in Taraba view the visit by the two governors and traditional rulers as more than a routine engagement.
“We particularly commend His Excellency, Dr. Agbu Kefas, for demonstrating courage and empathy by personally visiting the affected areas. His presence among the people reassured displaced families that the Taraba State Government remains committed to protecting lives, restoring normalcy, and rebuilding the confidence of citizens who have been deeply affected by the crisis.”
He also praised the participation of Governor Alia in the peace mission, describing it as a strong demonstration of cooperation between neighbouring states in tackling security threats affecting border communities.
“Equally commendable is the collaboration shown by Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia of Benue State, whose participation in the peace mission underscores the shared responsibility of neighbouring states in addressing security challenges affecting border communities.
“His presence sent a strong message that peace, unity, and mutual coexistence remain the only sustainable path for our people. We also note with appreciation the assurances given during the visit regarding the strengthening of security deployments in the affected areas to enable displaced persons return safely to their homes and farms. The provision of relief materials and humanitarian support to those displaced by the crisis has rekindled hope among many families who have endured months of hardship.”
The association also expressed appreciation to James Ortese Ayatse, the Tor Tiv V and Chairman of the Benue State Council of Chiefs, as well as Ishaku Adah, the Aku-Uka of Wukari, for their continued efforts in promoting peace and stability in the region.
Bakah urged communities across southern Taraba to support ongoing peace efforts spearheaded by government authorities, traditional rulers and security agencies.
He warned that acts of violence and reprisals would only worsen the suffering of residents and prolong the cycle of insecurity already affecting the communities.
