
Troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE have foiled an attempted terrorist attack on the Tor Donga Yam Market in Benue State, killing two suspected attackers and recovering an AK-47 rifle, ammunition and other items.
The Acting Media Information Officer at the Headquarters of Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Sunday.
Lt. Zubairu said the operation was carried out on Sunday during a fighting and confidence-building patrol by troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE in collaboration with operatives of the Benue State Civil Protection Guard after they received a distress call about the attack.
He said the security team swiftly moved to Tor Donga Yam Market in Benue State, where they engaged the suspected terrorists in a gun battle.
According to him, 2 of the suspects, identified as Dantaraba and Golozo, were neutralised during the exchange of fire.
Following the operation, troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, a damaged pistol, one pistol magazine, six rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, nine rounds of 9mm pistol ammunition, an ATM card, a Moniepoint ATM card, and other items.
He stressed that the swift response prevented the attackers from disrupting commercial activities at the market, allowing traders and residents to continue their businesses without interruption.
The Force Commander of Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE, Major General Moses Gara, commended the troops and operatives of the Benue State Civil Protection Guard for their professionalism and teamwork.
He also thanked residents for providing timely intelligence and urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies by reporting suspicious activities.
