Troops rescue another Chibok school girl in Borno

The Nigerian Army says its troops have rescued one additional girl from the Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, nine years after their abduction by Boko Haram in 2014.

Ms. Saratu Dauda, who was rescued by troops of Operation Hadin Kai in Sambisa Forest on 6th May 2023, has been handed over to the Borno State Government for rehabilitation and reintegration.

The Theatre Commander, North-East Joint Operation, Hadin Kai, Ibrahim Ali, a major general, disclosed this on Monday while briefing journalists at the Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri.

“This brings to a total of 183 Chibok school girls that have so far been rescued from captivity. Remaining 93 schoolgirls are still all unaccounted for”.

“At this juncture. Let me state that the joint efforts of all components of Operation Hadin Kai have been effective and committed under the strategic guidance of the commander in chief of the armed forces, President Muhammadu Buhari GCF or the Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, the Chief of Army Staff, the Chief of Naval Staff, as well as the Chief of Air Staff have continued to yield more operational successes in the north eastern region of Nigeria,” Ali said.

“Consequently, on the 6th of May this year as troops are in operation in Sambisa forest, they came across Saratu Dauda who abandoned her three children and now will be handed over to the officials of the Borno state government.

“The rescue among several other women and children were largely driven by the kinetic and non kinetic activities of Operation Hadin Kai, especially , in the ongoing Operation Desert Sanity in the Lake Chad Basin”, he said.

“Accordingly on the first of May, this year, our forces while on operations in Kuba in Sambisa, forest, rescued another abducted Chibok school girl by name Sarah Dauda, who is listed on serial number 10 on the list of abducted Chibok school girls.

“Salatu is 25 years old, and a native of Ebola in Chibok. local government area of Borno State. She was once married to one Abu Yusuf who she later divorced, before getting married to one Ana Muhammad, also known as Abu Zee Neeraj, a Boko Haram terrorist.

“She had three daughters, aged seven, five and two years old. So far, efforts to rescue her children and other innocent women and children are ongoing.

The Theater Commander, further, commended the efforts of Borno State government in their support towards the recent achievements recorded by the military.

“To the law abiding citizens of the Northeast, we will continue to provide a secure atmosphere where social economic and political activities will continue to thrive”, he said
