Ukraine receives bodies of 1,212 fallen soldiers from Russia
Ukraine has received the bodies of 1,212 of its fallen soldiers from Russia, the agency dealing with prisoners of war in Kiev announced.
The soldiers died in battles in various regions, including Kursk, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhya, and Kherson.
Russia transported the bodies over the weekend, terming it a “humanitarian action.”
Ukraine had disputed the handover date, but ultimately, the remains were returned.
The handover is part of agreements reached in Istanbul, which provided for the return of over 6,000 fallen soldiers’ remains from Russia to Ukraine.
The fate of Russian soldiers’ remains in Ukraine remains unclear.
The repatriation brings solace to families of the fallen heroes, and Ukraine continues to navigate the complexities of conflict and humanitarian efforts.
