New Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Vicky Seymour
United Kingdom (UK) has appointed Vicky Seymour as its new Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, succeeding Gill Lever OBE, whose diplomatic posting ended in June 2026.
The appointment was announced in a statement issued by the UK Government on Thursday.
According to the statement, Seymour has resumed duty in Abuja, where she will work to deepen the long-standing partnership between the UK and Nigeria. Her responsibilities will cover key areas including economic growth, security, migration, development, international cooperation and strengthening people-to-people ties between both countries.
Seymour brings more than 20 years of experience in diplomacy, international development and public service to her new role.
Before her appointment to Nigeria, she served as Head of the East Africa Department at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), a position she held from 2023.
She had also previously led the FCDO’s Trade Diplomacy Department and served as Development Director in Mozambique.
Over the course of her career, Seymour has held senior leadership positions in several African countries, including Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. She also served in Afghanistan and worked on issues relating to climate, security and economic development.
Before joining the UK civil service, she worked in the not-for-profit sector, where her focus was on migration.
The UK Government said Seymour’s appointment reflects its commitment to further strengthening cooperation with Nigeria across areas of mutual interest.
