Brighton pulled off a shock 2-1 win over Liverpool on Saturday, handing the Reds their 10th Premier League defeat of the season.
Danny Welbeck scored both goals and was the difference on the night.
Brighton started brightly and took the lead in the 14th minute.
Welbeck found a pocket of space in the box and calmly slotted home. Liverpool looked a bit caught cold.
The visitors fought back and levelled just before halftime. In the 36th minute, Milos Kerkez pounced on a defensive mistake and finished well to make it 1-1.
The second half was tense.
Brighton thought they had retaken the lead around the 60th minute, but it was ruled out for offside.
Liverpool had a few chances too, but none were really dangerous.
Brighton finally made it count in the 78th minute. Welbeck rose highest to meet a cross and headed it past the keeper.
The stadium erupted.
Liverpool tried to fight back in the final minutes, pressing hard, but Brighton held firm.
An early injury to Hugo Ekitike in the first 10 minutes didn’t help Liverpool. They had to reshuffle quickly and never really got into their usual rhythm.
In the end, Brighton were sharper, faster to the ball, and made the most of their chances. Liverpool had moments but never enough to turn the game around.
