Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has paid glowing tribute to retired Lt.-Gen. Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma as the elder statesman marks his 88th birthday, describing him as one of Nigeria’s most enduring symbols of courage, philanthropy and nation-building.
The governor’s message was conveyed in a statement by Dr. Gyang Bere, Director of Press and Public Affairs (DOPPA), on Tuesday in Jos.
Mutfwang said Danjuma’s life remains a beacon of service and sacrifice, noting that the former Chief of Army Staff devoted his years in and out of uniform to defending the nation and uplifting the downtrodden.
He celebrated the general as “a symbol of excellence, hope and a philanthropist who devoted his life to the defence, progress and upliftment of the poor,” adding that his impact on communities across Nigeria remains unmistakable.
“We join hands as a people bound by a common heritage, together with millions of Nigerians to celebrate our father, mentor, and leader whose life story radiates service, courage and greatness on his 88th birthday anniversary,” the governor said.
According to Mutfwang, Danjuma’s stature as a national figure is unquestionable.
“He remains a priceless national asset and an extraordinary achiever, who has enjoyed uncommon grace from God to lead, to serve, and to excel in diverse spheres of human endeavour.”
He recalled Danjuma’s outstanding career in the military, where “he stood out as a courageous soldier and an astute strategist,” as well as his success in business as “a visionary mogul in the transport, oil, and real estate sectors.”
Mutfwang also highlighted Danjuma’s humanitarian legacy, describing him as “a pillar of hope and a father figure to individuals, communities and nations.”
“In politics and public life, he shines as a statesman, a mentor and a guiding light to emerging leaders,” he added.
The governor prayed for continued good health, renewed strength and divine wisdom for Danjuma “as he continues to offer wise counsel and mentorship to the younger generation.”
