A member of the Zamfara State House of Assembly representing Maradun II Constituency, Alhaji Maharazu Salisu, has officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Salisu made the announcement on Tuesday at the APC state secretariat in Gusau, where he appeared alongside all PDP ward executives from the five wards in his constituency and over 1,000 supporters.
Explaining his reasons, Salisu said his defection was driven by what he described as the PDP’s lack of equity and internal justice.
> “PDP’s injustice and lack of fairness among the leaders of the party are among the causes that forced me and my constituents to defect from PDP to APC,” he declared.
According to the lawmaker, despite the overwhelming support the people of Maradun II gave to the PDP during the 2023 general elections, the constituency was completely sidelined in government appointments.
> “I remained the only PDP representative constantly attending to the needs of my people, yet no meaningful benefits came to them from the PDP-led government,” he lamented.
Salisu said the mass defection, which included all PDP ward chairmen, was a collective decision aimed at ensuring better representation for his constituents.
Among those who defected were the ward chairmen of Magami (Ahmad Lawal), Tsibiri (Lawal Tsibiri), Gidangoga (Sanusi Ahmad), and Maya (Shehu DanAbu). A prominent PDP chieftain from the area, Alhaji Salis Dodo, also switched allegiance to the APC.
Welcoming the new members, APC State Chairman Alhaji Tukur Danfulani assured them of full integration and fair treatment within the party.
He stated that the APC remains open to more defectors before the year ends, adding,
> “This is just the beginning; more are coming.”
Danfulani also directed party officials at all levels to extend equal opportunities to the new entrants.
Former APC State Chairman, Alhaji Lawali Liman, praised the leadership of the party, commending Senator Abdulaziz Yari and Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, for their unwavering support.
Liman encouraged the new members to stay committed to promoting the APC’s values and image across the state.
