By HARUNA AHMED, Gusau –
Zamfara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared that it remains steadfast and unshaken despite recent defections of some members to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This assurance was contained in a statement released on Wednesday in Gusau by the PDP Publicity Secretary, Mr. Halliru Andi.
While the PDP currently governs Zamfara State, the APC holds control at the federal level.
The party’s reaction followed the defection of Hon. Maharazu Faru, who represents Maradun II Constituency in the Zamfara State House of Assembly. Faru, along with several PDP ward executives, announced their move to the APC, alleging that Governor Dauda Lawal had failed to fulfill his campaign promises.
“Dauda failed to address challenges ranging from insecurity, which is the main reason people voted for him,” Faru stated.
Responding, the PDP said it was neither surprised nor discouraged by the defection.
“The PDP, under the capable leadership of Dr. Jamil Jibo Magayaki, has noted the defection of Hon. Maharazu Faru to the APC,” Andi said. “While we respect his personal choice, we are not surprised. History has shown that those who prioritize personal ambition over the collective interest of the people often end up on the wrong side of history.”
He maintained that the PDP remains the only political party truly committed to rebuilding and rescuing Zamfara State.
According to Andi, Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration is gradually restoring public confidence, rebuilding key institutions, and improving security and livelihoods across the state.
“The ongoing reforms and development initiatives clearly demonstrate that the PDP is the party of progress and compassion,” he said. “We are confident that Hon. Faru will soon realize his mistake, as the people of Zamfara have resolved to stand firmly with the PDP.”
Andi expressed optimism that the PDP would record a sweeping victory in future elections at all levels.
“We urge our members and supporters to remain resolute and proud. No defection can shake our foundation or derail the will of the people. The PDP remains strong, united, and deeply rooted in the hearts of Zamfara people,” he added.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the PDP still retains a majority in the Zamfara State House of Assembly with 14 lawmakers, while the APC now has 10 members.
