A bloody clash over land matter between Gbagyi and Bassa ethnic groups in Kudu village of Toto local government area of Nasarawa State, have claimed seven lives.

Our correspondent gathered the crisis erupted when Bassa ethnic group, invaded a community where Gbagyi people have settled in order to carry out farming activities.

Eyewitness said many persons sustained various degrees of injuries, while houses and farm produce worth millions of naira were destroyed as a result of the clash.

Meanwhile, Gov Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, said government has waded into the unfolding security breaches in Toto Local Government Area of the state.

The Governor, disclosed this while presiding over an emergency executive council meeting which held at the Government House, Lafia, on Monday.

According to him, even though the matter was not part of the agenda for the meeting, it has become necessary to bring it up before the executive council because some lives were lost during the incursion.

Gov Sule, then announced plans to convene a meeting involving Gbagyi, Egbirra and Bassa communities with a view to address overriding distrust and perceived acrimony existing between them.

“The security agencies have already moved in there, and we will be able to get to the bottom of it. But most importantly the moment we return from Abuja we are going to have a meeting of the Gbagyi, the Egbirra and Bassa communities so that at the end of the day, we have to bring this to an end. It can not go on in this unfortunate circle” he stated.

All efforts to get the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ramhan Nansel, failed as at press time, because he couldn’t return calls put to him nor reply text message sent to him on this matter.
