AFCON 2023: Remain focused, SWAN charges Super Eagles, thumps up NFF, FG

The Leadership of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has expressed delight with the turn of performance and subsequent victory by the Super Eagles over the Elephants of Cote d’ivoire in the second group A match at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023.

SWAN President, Mr. Isaiah Benjamin, who spoke from Abidjan, venue of the tournament via a statement issued by the Association’s Secretary-General, Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, Friday morning, said the crucial victory which means the Nigeria’s senior men national team now have a leading four points leave no one in doubt that they are out for business.

“This victory is well deserved because the Nigerian team showed grit and determination despite playing in front of mammoth home crowd. I’m specially elated and still optimistic that Super Eagles will go all the way and win this tournament.

“Kudos to the Nigeria Football Federation and the Federal Government for sustaining the push for support which fueled the wheel of progress that has put smile on the faces of Nigerians initial initial hiccups.

“All the team needs now is to maintain focus and approach every game with the seriousness it deserves. With this, Nigeria will be on the lane to the fourth AFCON title,” he said.

Nigeria with four points will take on Guinea-Bissau in their final Group Stage match on Monday by 6pm, same time the Ivorians will battle Equatorial Guinea.
SWAN president sad a win for the Super Eagles will ensure that they top the group heading to the knockout stage of the competition.

Also, a draw will still see the three-time African Champions through to the next level of the tournament which is at its 34th edition.
