Christopher Danjuma, Head coach of the Falconets, Nigeria’s Under 20 female football team, assured on Monday that they are focused on a podium finish at the 2023 African Games in Ghana.

Danjuma also told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that 20 out of 29 players, selected in camp to represent Nigeria, would depart for Ghana on Tuesday.

”We’ve been in camp since Feb. 15. The camp is great and full of excitement. Almost all the players are debutants.

”The girls are all set to go and make the nation proud by retaining the Gold we won in 2019.

”We have respect for every team considering the fact that all these teams had qualified for FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup scheduled for Colombia from Aug. 31 to Sept. 22 later in the year.

”We are aiming to repeat the same feat at the 2019 African games,” he said.

He said that the Falconets’ final list for the games would be released later.

NAN reports that Nigeria is in Group B with Morocco, Senegal and Cameroon.

Nigeria will play Morocco, Senegal and Cameroon sequentially in their group clash.

Nigeria won football gold in three out of the last five editions.
We won the women’s category in 2003, 2007 and 2019.
Nigeria defeated Cameroon 3-2 on penalties to win the African Games football gold in Morocco in 2019.
The 13th African Games will be held in in three cities across Ghana – Accra, Kumasi and Cape Coast – from March 8 to March 24. (NAN)
