As Muslims faithful world over observe Eid-el-Fitr today, Friday, the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Zone 10, Sani Bello Dalijan has ordered Commissioners of Police (CPs) under his jurisdiction, Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states to ensure that they maintain peace, before, during and after the celebration.
The AIG who ordered for adequate security arrangements, added that security should be beefed up in all entry and exit routes from these states.
A statement signed by the Zone 10 Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Uthman Yaqub Muhammad, said the AIG’s directive was in compliance with the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba’s directives on security measures across the country.
Part of the statement reads, “‘The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 10 Police Headquarters, Sokoto AIG Bello Sani Dalijan, wishes to felicitate and rejoice with the Muslim Ummah throughout the Zone comprising Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara States on the occasion of this year’s Eid-el-fitr.
“‘The AIG ordered adequate proactive security measures across the commands within the Zone, before, during, and after the Eid-el-fitr celebration, assuring everyone of adequate security to ensure hitch free celebrations.
“Following the Eid-el-fitr celebration to mark the end of the Ramadan fast by Muslim faithful all over the world, the AIG Zone 10 Police Headquarters Sokoto warned the Commissioners of Police, Sokoto State CP Usaini Gumel, Kebbi State CP Abubakar Lawal Daura and Zamfara State CP Kolo Yusuf respectively to take proactive security measures within their respective areas of responsibilities (AOR) such as robust visibility patrol, crowd control and implementation of anti-crime prevention and control strategies in their respective commands to ensure adequate security of lives and properties”‘.
“”They are also to beef up security in the entire linking roads, entry and exit points, major highways, city centers, worship centers, recreational centers, Government installations/properties and other strategic locations in their areas””.
The AIG further cautioned officers to be mindful of the fundamental human rights of the citizenry in addition to carefully observing the volume of traffic occasioned by the Sallah holidays and advised members of the public to cooperate with policemen deployed for traffic control duties to ease traffic congestion in the city centers.
AIG, Sani Bello Dalijan also warned men on stop and search as well as other crime prevention duties to be courteous and professional and avoid acts that may bring the force to disrepute.
While wishing Muslim faithful world over a happy Eid-el-Fitr celebration, AIG Sani Dalijan enjoins all to be security conscious and report any suspicious incidents observed within their neighbourhood to the nearest police station.
