The Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa) has taken a significant step towards enhancing sports facilities at the University of Jos (UNIJOS) with the commencement of the construction of a N250 million sport complex.

The facility, located at the Naraguta Campus of the university, is designed to bolster the university’s readiness to host the Nigerian Universities Games Association (NUGA) games.

With features such as a 300-seater spectator stand, changing rooms, a lawn tennis court, and a basketball court, the new sports complex is expected to elevate the sporting experience for students and athletes.

During the groundbreaking event, the Vice Chancellor of UNIJOS, Prof. Tanko Ishaya, expressed gratitude to ASR Africa Chairman, Abdul Samad Rabiu, for the crucial support. He highlighted the university’s concerns about funding to fulfill its role as the host university for the NUGA games until ASR Africa stepped in with a TEGS grant.

Moreover, the Vice Chancellor revealed that the university has partnered with the International Sports University in South Korea to develop a comprehensive sports programme aimed at nurturing talents in various sports disciplines.

Managing Director of ASR Africa, Dr. Ubon Udoh, commended the University of Jos for its exceptional status and assured swift completion of the sports complex.

He emphasized ASR Africa’s commitment, led by Chairman Abdul Samad Rabiu, in providing tailored solutions to support education in Nigeria and Africa.

ASR Africa, founded by industrialist and philanthropist Abdul Samad Rabiu in 2021, aims to address developmental challenges in healthcare, education, and social development across Africa.
