Benue stakeholders drum support for Suswam as PDP National Chairman

The aspirations of Senator Gabriel Torwua Suswam to occupy the seat of the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has received a boost as Concerned Benue PDP Stakeholders in their numbers gathered to endorsed him.

The stakeholders of the party also resolved to further present Senator Suswam to the State, Zonal and National Working Committee of the party as a sole candidate for the position from Benue.

The occasion which took place on Thursday in Makurdi at the Conference Hall of Hallydays Hotel Makurdi attracted a mammoth gathering of critical stakeholders of the Benue PDP including former State and National Assembly members, former and serving Local Government party Chairmen, former government appointees, the Benue PDP G-14 and G-9, the business class, women groups as well as the academicians and the clergy.

At the ceremony to formally endorse Chief Convener of the outing, Dr. Paul Ubwa said it has become necessary, logical, constitutional and just to field Senator Gabriel Suswam to complete the Benue slot occasioned by the court order restraining Senator Dr. Iyorchia Ayu from presiding over the affairs of the party.

Ubwa noted that the political credentials, pedigree, experience, exposure and connect of Senator Suswam at the national stage make him as the right and proper person to rescue the PDP at this challenging times.

Prof. Nicholas Adah, who was the guest speaker at the occasion appealed to the Benue PDP not to view Suswam’s ambition as a personal one but an all encompassing pursuit for justice and fair-play, noting that Senator Suswam is the only one that has the capacity and potentials to mobilize party machinery to regain power at the centre for the good of Nigerians.

The university don explained that given the commitment, dedication and selflessness demonstrated by Suswam, he would surely lead the party to prosperity if offered the position of National Chairman.

According to him, the party deserve a nationalist like Sen. Suswam to reposition the party ahead of 2027 given his various reconciliatory roles he played during his days as governor and Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The former Minister of Foreign Affairs noted that Sen. Suswam remains the only one known to Benue PDP and has followed all the due procedure by consulting the various organs of the party at the state and local levels for support and blessing.

The North-Central PDP Secretary, Chief Maurice Tsav in his comment observed that although Sen. Suswam is unmatched aspirant and good product, the Concerned Benue PDP Stakeholders should step-up their game as there are other aspirants from the Zone eyeing same position.

Mr Terngu Tsegba a former member of the National Assembly from the state in his comment stated that the values, principles, philosophy and party discipline that well envisioned by the founding fathers of the PDP has been completely eluded and discarded by some elected party members and it will only take someone like Senator Gabriel Suswam to restore order and discipline in the party.

Some speakers at the occasion, who stood in for strategic groups such as G-14, Dr. Laha Dzever, G-9, Dr. Mike Iduma, the Business Class in the party, Chief Chris Ada (aka Mad Lion}, Dr. Paul Orhii Botwev, Dr. Alex Adum all pledged their unflinching support of their groups to the Suswam’s candidature.

They however, said that diligent and additional groundwork needed to be done in order to thwart the ill intention of fifth columnists in the party who want to trade with the future of the PDP for financial and selfish patronage.

Speaking in the same vein, the representatives of former Assembly members, Dr. Ayar Gwer, former Local Government Council Chairmen, Rt. Hon. George Ali, PDP Chairmen across the 23 local government areas, wife of the 2023 PDP governorship Candidate in Benue, Mr. Pauline Uba, Suspended Local Government Chairmen in Benue, Minority Leader of the Benue State House of Assembly Hon. Mike Audu, Benue PDP Elite Group led by Chief Mrs. Susan Waya, the youths among other numerous groups were unanimous that Suswam’s pedigree clearly mark him out for the prime position, saying where ten Nigerians are gathered in the arena of politics, Suswam’s voice input and impact must be heard and respected.

In his motion to confirm Senator Suswam as the sole candidate from Benue State, Mr. Terngu Tsegba was emphatic that the position and resolution of the group should be presented to the State, Zonal and National Executive Council of the party for consideration and proactive approval.
