Edo Chief Judge constitutes LG Election Petition Appeals Tribunal

Tribunal

Edo State Chief Judge, Justice Daniel Okungbowa, has constituted the state Local Government Election Petition Appeals tribunal.

The Chief Registrar, Mr Benson Osazuwa, disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen on Monday in Benin.

The statement said it was in line with the Edo State Local Government Election Law 2012 (as amended).

In the three-man committee constituted, Justice Emmanuel Ahamioje serves as Chairman, while Justices Nekpen Asemota and Nogi Imoukhuede will serve as members.

Two regular tribunals had received 18 petitions from aggrieved Labour Party candidates on the Sept. 2, 2023 local government polls across the state.

They had tried the cases separately by Justices Terry Momodu and Rachel Ogbevoen and dismissed all while upholding the victory of PDP and its candidates.

According to the judgments, Labour Party and its candidates could not prove their cases beyond reasonable doubt, consequently, the two panels upheld the results declared by Edo State Independent Electoral commission .

NAN reports that the aggrieved petitioners had alleged that there were no elections in the 18 local government areas in the state, as such results wouldn’t have been declared. (NAN)
