Federal Poly Bauchi matriculates 5,181 students for 2020/2021 academic session

ARMSTRONG ALLAHMAGANI, Bauchi –

The Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, has matriculated no fewer than 5,181 newly admitted students for the 2020/2021 academic session.

Speaking at the event held on Saturday at the School’s Sports Complex, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Arc. Sanusi Gumau, explained that the Polytechnic received 8,604 applications for the 2020/2021 academic session.

He said that 8,376 were admitted, while 5,181 were registered as bonafide students of the Institution.

Gumau gave the breakdown of the classes of the registered new intakes to include: HND – 1,745, ND – 2,227, Diploma – 1,176 and IJMB – 33, noting that, “from the figures given, we are matriculating a total of 5,181 students today.”

He recalled that recently, the Governing Council and the Academic Board of the Polytechnic approved the dismissal of two academic staff for sexual harassment and 30 students for examination misconducts and certificate forgery.

“These go to show you that the Federal Polytechnic Bauchi has zero tolerance for sexual harassment, examination misconduct, certificate forgery and all forms of misdemeanor from staff or students of the Institution,” he warned.

The Rector disclosed that the Board for Technical Education, has approved the commencement of nine new Higher National Diplomas and National Diploma Courses the Polytechnic.

He said besides the nine new courses that were approved, the NBTE also accredited and reaccredited 19 programmes in the Polytechnic.

He said: “In our bid to maintain our very enviable place among our peers in the country, the Institution has recently played host to over 100 staff and resource persons from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Kaduna for accreditation, reaccreditation and resources inspections for the courses run in our various academic departments.

“As we speak, we received communication from the NBTE on the approval for accreditation and reaccreditation of 19 programmes and another approval to commence nine new ND and HND programmes.

“They are: National Diploma Computer Engineering, National Diploma Fisheries Technology, National Diploma Crime Management, National Diploma Cooperative Economics and Management and National Diploma Taxation.

“Others are Higher National Diploma Science Laboratory Technology (Microbiology), Higher National Diploma Forestry Technology, Higher National Diploma Crop Production Technology and Higher National Diploma Library and Information Science.”

He expressed appreciation to the Bauchi State Government, security agencies in the state – the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps and other security outlets for assisting the Polytechnic and the host communities in nipping in the bud covert and overt security breach attempts.

He charged the matriculating students to maintain a high sense of discipline during their study and avoid all forms of social vices.

He also charged them to guard their admission jealously so that they will not end up wasting their time and their parents’ resources, while reminding them that many applied but could not get the admission.

He told them: “It also a happy day for you because as students here, you will start to have a place for self-discovery, in not just your area of study, but also in skills acquisition, through our well-prepared entrepreneurial development centre in conjunction with the various academic departments.

“While congratulating you, I owe you a responsibility. I must be quick to tell you that the day is not only about celebrations. It is also a day for solicitude, reflection and thanksgiving for the opportunity God almighty has provided you of gaining admission into the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi.

“You must know about someone, who has applied for admission into the Federal Polytechnic Bauchi but was not successful, due to one reason or another.

“This is enough a reason for you to jealously guard your admission and study hard in order not to waste your time and your parents’ hard earned resources.”

“On our side, we are doing everything humanly possible to provide an atmosphere favourable to teaching and learning. Pursuant to that, we are tilting our efforts in the provision of infrastructure in the Polytechnic” he said.
