Gov. Mohammed presents 6 commissioner-nominees, 2 others to Bauchi Assembly for screening, confirmation

Governor Bala Mohammed has sent six commissioner-nominees to the Bauchi State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.

Those nominated include Abdulkadir Ibrahim from Alkaleri Local Government Area and Maryam Bagel from Dass Local Government Area, who resigned their positions as Commissioners and contested for the House of Representatives tickets of their constituencies under the Peoples Democratic Party, but lost out.

Ibrahim contested for Alkaleri/Kirfi Federal Constituency ticket while Bagel sought to get the ticket of the Bogoro/Dass/Tafawa Balewa Constituency to take over from former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, but lost to Barrister Kefas Magaji.

The spokesperson of the Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Abdul Burra, said that other nominees whose names were read on the floor at the resumed sitting are: Zainab Baban Takko; Adamu Gabarin, a former Bauchi Central Senatorial District aspirant, Sabiu Gwalabe and Ahmed Jalam.

He said: “Bauchi State House of Assembly received messages from office of the Executive Governor of Bauchi State His Excellency Senator Bala Abdulkadir requesting for the screening and confirmation of the following Commissioner-Nominees:

“Abdulkadir Ibrahim – Alkaleri local government; Zainab Baban Takko – Bauchi Local government; Adamu Babayo Gabarin – Darazo Local Government; Maryam Garba Bagel -Dass Local Government; Dr. Sabiu Abdu Gwalabe -Katagum Local Government and Ahmed Aliyu Jalam -Dambam Local Government,” he said.

Burra further said that the governor also sought the lawmakers’ confirmation of Joshua Titus Sanga as the Director General, Public Procurement Bureau.

Also on the list, according to him, is Sagir Abdullahi Muhammad, whose nomination is for the Auditor General of the state.

He said: “The Honourable House referred the screening of DG Public Procurement Bureau and Auditor General to the House committees of Appropriation and Public Account.

“The House gave the Committees two weeks to report back. While the screening and confirmation of Commissioner nominees is slated to 7th September, 2022.”
