Governor Mutfwang approves N15.99bn for water projects in Plateau

In a major effort to combat water scarcity and improve infrastructure in Plateau State, Governor Caleb Mutfwang has approved a significant budget of N15.99 billion for water-related projects.

The announcement was made by the Commissioner of Water Resources and Energy, Hon. Noel Nkup, during the 2024 ministerial briefing highlighting the achievements of the Ministry of Water Resources and Energy (MWR&E) under the ‘Time is Now’ administration.

He emphasized the administration’s commitment to addressing water scarcity and enhancing infrastructure development across the state, with a focus on equitable resource distribution.

“Our Ministry remains steadfast in ensuring access to clean water for all citizens, in line with the mandate of the Ministry of Water Resources and Energy.” He said.

Hon.Nkup highlighted the ministry’s participation in national projects such as the Nigeria Sustainable Urban and Rural Water Supply and Hygiene Project (SURWASH) as a testament to its commitment to sustainable water management and policy development

He stated “Our participation in national projects such as the Nigeria Sustainable Urban and Rural Water Supply and Hygiene Project (SURWASH) reflects our commitment to sustainable water management and policy development”.

“The Plateau State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency(PRUWASSA),has made remarkable progress in enhancing sanitation facilities and hygiene practices in rural communities, from baseline data collection to the establishment of Village Level Operation and Maintenance (VLOM) units”.

Additionally, Hon. Nkup commended the Jos Water Services Corporation (JWSC) for their efforts in pipeline maintenance and improving water supply and quality assurance. He also acknowledged the Plateau State Energy Corporation for addressing faulty electrical installations to enhance essential services for citizens.

He expressed gratitude to Governor Mutfwang for allocating the funds and reaffirmed the Ministry’s dedication to the administration’s ideals, promising to continue working diligently to ensure the successful implementation of these projects for the benefit of all Plateau State’s residents.
