Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu and other notable dignitaries have joined others to witness the funeral and memorial service in honour of the late Obong Enobong Thomas Umanah, founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State.

In his message of condolence, Governor Otu, represented by his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Dr. Peter Odey, described Obong Umanah as a dedicated community leader, devout Christian, and exemplary statesman.

“He was an exceptional party member and one of my most steadfast supporters, who exerted immense effort to ensure my success in the election.

“I am pained that after working so hard to build a Cross River State that we all yearn to see, he will not be around to witness it”, the governor said.

He further emphasized that the late Obong Umanah’s remarkable leadership in Calabar South and across the state will be greatly missed.

He encouraged the family members and friends left behind to find solace in the knowledge that he lived a life that profoundly impacted many in society.

The burial, held at the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, Odukpani Qua Parish, in Odukpani Local Government Area, saw the presence of Senator Florence Ita-Giwa, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Emmanuel Ironbar, Former Minister of Culture and Tourism, High Chief Edem Duke, HRH Etinyin Dr. Asuquo Ekpenyong, and other high-ranking government officials.

Others who grace the event include traditional rulers, religious leaders and party faithful, among others.
