Rep. Abdullahi Aliyu (APC-Musawa/Matazu) in Katsina State disbursed N32.5 million as scholarships to 1,895 indigent students of the state on Saturday.

Beneficiaries from Musawa Local Government Area of the state numbered 1,087, while those from Matazu Local Government Area numbered 808.

Each university undergraduate and those studying at the Higher National Diploma level got N20,000.

Beneficiaries undergoing studies at the National Certificate of Education and National Diploma levels got N15,000 each.

Alhaji Samaila Adamu, chairman of the scholarship committee, said at the flag-off in Musawa that the gesture was facilitated and implemented by the Musawa Education Committee.

“A total of 2,364 students applied for the scholarships but only 1,895 qualified.

“The scholarship has no political consideration as all qualified students benefitted,’’ he said.

In his remarks, Katsina State’s Gov. Dikko Radda commended the lawmaker for the initiative and noted that the scholarship came when the students needed support.

Radda enjoined other lawmakers to emulate the kind gesture of Rep. Aliyu.

The governor stressed that education is one of his administration’s topmost priority areas and that he approved the release of money to settle backlog of outstanding scholarship allowances recently. (NAN)
