Prof Onje Gye-Wado, a former Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, who was kidnapped on Thursday night, has been freed by his abductors after collecting close to 4 million naira ransom.

A former NUJ chairman and also a former commissioner of information in the state, Mr Dogo Shamma, confirmed the release of Prof Gye-Wado, via a text he sent to NUJ state council WhatsApp handle around 10:06pm, saying, “To God be the Glory, Prof. Onje, is finally released from the hands of kidnappers just now”

The professor of law, was kidnapped on Thursday night in his country home, Rinza, near Wamba, the headquarters of Wamba local government area of the state.

Earlier, his kidnappers placed a ransom of 70 million naira, but the family bargained from 2 million to 3.5 million naira and finally, the family had to top it close to 4 million naira before he was released.

“They collected the ransom near Mada Hills Secondary School in Akwanga, with 200 naira recharge card, then he was released near Angwan chiyawa, close to those hills between Akwanga and Nasarawa Eggon” a family source said.

It was gathered that Prof Gye-Wado, was taken back to the Palace of the paramount ruler of Wamba, Oriye Rindre, Justice Lawal Musa Nagogo, upon his release.
