Malawi police arrest anti-corruption boss over alleged leaked audio clip

Malawi Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Director General, Martha Chizuma was on Tuesday arrested by the police over an alleged leaked audio conversation, local media reported.

Malawi’s police spokesperson, Peter Kalaya confirmed the arrest but he is yet to outline the arrest details.

According to the police, Chizuma is being kept at a police station on the outskirts of Lilongwe city.

Meanwhile, Chizuma’s lawyer, Martha Kaukonde has said that the arrest is connected to the alleged leaked audio clip in which Chizuma spoke with another person about the fight against corruption in the country.

In January 2022, an audio was leaked on social media in which Chizuma was alleged to have discussed a high-profile corruption case with a friend.
