Minister visits IDPs Camp, holds town hall meeting with youths in Maiduguri

Minister of State for Youths Development, Ayodele Olawande who is on a two day state working visit to Maiduguri , Borno State capital visited NYSC corp members, IDPs camp, 7 Division Hospital Maimalari Cantonment, Governor Zulum and held Town Hall Meeting with youths on Thursday and Friday.

He said the visit was aimed at assessing youths’ empowerment programmes and schemes in the Northeast region of Nigeria.

The Minister added ” My official visit to Maiduguri is part of my series of engagements with relevant stakeholders in various states.”

Ayodele, who was warmly welcomed by the Borno State Commissioner for Youth, Sport and Poverty Alleviation, Comrade Saina Buba, and the Secretary to the State Government, (SSG) Hon. Bukar Tijani at the Maiduguri International Airport, proceeded straight to pay a courtesy visit to Governor Babagana Zulum, at the Government House.

During the visit, Governor Zulum expressed his belief that the potential of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Scheme has not been fully harnessed, even after many years of its establishment.

He emphasized the crucial role played by the NYSC Scheme in fostering unity in the country and called for concerted efforts to fully realize its vision.

Responding, the Minister appreciated the support of the Governor while emphasizing President Tinubu’s commitment to provide all the necessary support to the youths of the country.

He encouraged all young people across the country to acquire two skills, as he believes empowerment through education and skills acquisition will open doors to a brighter future.

The Minister also engaged with the serving NYSC corps members in Borno State, interacting with them and discussing ways to enhance their development.

He also extended his sympathy to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and assured them of imminent resettlement at the Muna Internally Displaced Persons camp.

The Minister said the reassurance aimed to provide hope and relief to those affected by displacement.

He further visited visit the Theatre Command Operation Hadin ka JTF Theater Command Headquarters and 7 Division Hospital Maiduguri, where he commended the sacrifices of the frontline troops.

Major General G.U Chibuisi, the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, expressed his appreciation for the Minister’s visit and noted its motivational impact on the troops.

To engage with youths and foster their growth, the Borno State Commissioner of Youths, Sports and Poverty Alleviation, Hon. Saina Buba also organized various forum for them to interact with the Minister which took place at the Musa Usman Secretariat.

 

The Minister added that the discussions were aimed at building a better future for both the youths and the nation.

He noted that his visit to Borno State facilitated important conversations about youths empowerment and the untapped potentials of the NYSC Scheme.

The minister said that with the support and dedication of relevant stakeholders, it is hoped that the youths of Nigeria will experience increased opportunities and a brighter future.
