NAOWA president commissions borehole, skills acquisition center in Maimalari Cantonment

The President of the Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA), the Wife of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Mrs Mariya T. A. Lagbaja, on Monday commissioned a 25,000-litre borehole to provide water supply for 60 families in Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri.

Mrs Mariya also laid foundation stone of a skills acquisition and training centre for families of Officers and Soldiers of Maimalari Cantonment Maiduguri initiated by the leadership of the Nigeria Army 7 Division NAOWA Chaoter Maiduguri under the Chairperson, Mrs Amina Peter Malla as part of activities marking the Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference being held in Maiduguri, the Borno State Capital for a week.

Mrs Lagbaja in her remarks during the inauguration, expressed profound gratitude and appreciation as she could not hide her excitement and delight over the projects. She joined other wives of the officers abd soldiers to sing and dance to glory, saying, “water is Life”.

The Wife of the COAS also said she commissioned the projects to the unity and service of the Nigerian Army for the betterment of humanity.

The Chief of Staff (COS), 7 Division Nigerian Army, Maimalari Cantonment Maidugiri, Engineering Brigade, 7 Div NA, Col. R.B Ajao, said that the skills acquisition and training centre will definitely make positive impact on the members of the community and its environs, particularly, the direct beneficiaries, who are members of the families of officers and soldiers at the Cantonment.

This event is the collective resolve of the leadership of NAOWA to continue to seek ways to empower families of officers and soldiers with requisite skills to make a decent living for themselves and in turn impact positively on their immediate community and environs,” Col Ajao said.

A member of the NAOWA and Maimalari Cantonment Maiduguri, Mrs Eunice Oladoyin, in her remark, commended NAOWA for its intervention, stressing that the project will go a long way in bringing succour to the people especially the beneficiaries.

“The water project is indeed a right step in the right direction. We will now channel our money to other important things rather than buying water.

” The skills acquisition and training centre will also assist many families, especially widows whose husbands had died in the line of duty”, she said.
