Nasarawa Govt to sell bag of fertilizer at N12,000 for dry season farming

The Nasarawa State Government has flagged off the sale of dry season farming implements to farmers in the state, as it crashed the price of fertilizer from N21,000 to N12, 000.

Governor Abdullahi Sule announced the subsidy on Tuesday during the flag- off and sales of the fertilizer for 2024 dry season farming in Lafia.

The governor warned those handling the sales of over 13,000 bags of fertilizer earmarked for this year’s dry season farming across the state to be responsible because they will be held accountable for any abnormality in the exercise.

“We are selling the fertilizer at a subsidized rate of N12,000 per bag while in the market, it is sale at N21,000 per bag. As we are flagging off and selling this fertilizer here, other local governments too are selling in their respective local government areas” he said.

The Governor, who said that the gesture was to boost food production and ensure food security in the state, said his administration would remain focused in ensuring that agricultural potentials are fully harnessed.

He called on the people of the state to take advantage of President Bola Tinubu Renewed Hope Agricultural Funds to enhance food security in the State.

On his part, the Chairman, Nasarawa State House of Assembly Committee on Agriculture, Dr Peter Ibrahim Akwe, said the distribution of the fertilizers would lead to bumper harvest in the state in 2024 and beyond.

He urged those involved in the sales to ensure that the fertilizer get to the real farmers across the State.

” This fertilizer is meant for farmers and it should reach to the real farmers across the state,” he said

On their parts, Hon. Aminu Muazu Maifata, the State ALGON Chairman and Chairman, Lafia Local Government Area as well as the Emir of Lafia, Justice Sidi Bage ( Rtd), appreciated the Governor for the gesture.

They also commended the Governor for promoting peace and security across the state among various intervention projects.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Alh. Umar Dan’Akano, said the flagging off of the dry season fertilizer was to boost food production in the State.

He said that the importance of fertilizer to food security could not be overemphasized, hence, the need for the exercise.

The Commissioner commended Gov. Sule for prioritizing agriculture in the State.

In his vote of thanks, State Chairman, All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Amb. Isaac Kigbu, commended Governor Sule for his foresight in prioritizing the needs of farmers in the State.
