The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN ), Osun Chapter, has rejected the dissolution of the state executive committee by the national leadership of the union.
Mr Olugbemiga Eludire, the chapter chairman, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Osogbo, said a protest letter would be sent to the national body in Abuja over the dissolution.
Eludire noted that the dissolution of the chapter’s executive committee by national body was without due process.
“We just finished an emergency congress over the decision of JUSUN’s national body and we have resolved to write a petition to the national leadership.
“Our members reject the decision to dissolve the chapter’s executive committee by the National Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria and would not be deterred or hindered in achieving our set object, “ he said.
The national leadership of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria had on Monday dissolved the chapter’s executive committee and replaced it with a three-man caretaker committee.
NAN reports that Osun JUSUN had on Nov. 22, declared an indefinite strike, leading to the paralysis of judicial activities in the state following an alleged tear-gassing of its members by policemen during a peaceful protest.
The union was protesting against alleged high-handedness and abuse of office by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Adepele Ojo.
The protest came amid plans by the state government to suspend the Chief Judge and appoint the next most senior high court judge in acting capacity.
The national leadership of the union, however, in a statement in November dissociated itself from the strike embarked upon by the chapter.
It warned that the union would not be used as a weapon in the hands of politicians “to settle any perceived or real political scores.” (NAN).
