Police arrest man for locking up, starving his wife for 1 year

A pale looking Sadiya’s picture went viral on Thursday, sending shock waves to residents of Yobe State.

The Police Force in Yobe State on Thursday confirmed the arrested of a man, Ibrahim Yunusa, for allegedly restraining and starving his wife, Sadiya for one year.

The Command’s Spokesman, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Damaturu.

He said the arrest followed a warrant of issued by a senior magistrates’ court sitting in Nguru, authorising the Divisional Police Officer in the area to arrest and detain Yunusa.

Abdulkarim alleged that the suspect detained Sadiya in his Nguru residence, depriving her of food, proper medical care and access to family.

“We will soon speak with the victim who is currently on admission at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano.

“The suspect will be handed over to the court as requested,” he said.

NAN reports that a pale looking Sadiya’s picture went viral on Thursday, sending shock waves to residents of the state.

There have been calls by several individuals on the police and the state government to investigate the matter.(NAN)
