Police arrest man for strangling wife to death in Gombe

The Gombe State Police Command, has arrested a 21-year old man, Babangida Mohammed, for allegedly strangling his wife to death in Zenge village in Kaltungo Local Government Area of the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Gombe State Command, Mahid Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Thursday.

Abubakar, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, said that the case happened on June 2nd, 2022 and was reported at the Awak Division of the Command.

He said: “On the 12th June, 2022 at about 3.30pm, a case of culpable homicide was reported at Awak Division that on the 2nd June, 2022 at about 2.00pm, the above named suspect (Babangida Mohammed), strangled his wife, one Fatsuma Babangida, and killed her.”

He said that investigation into the matter had begun after which the suspect would be charged to court for prosecution.

Similarly, a serving personnel of the Nigeria Immigration Service, serving at the Billiri Formation in Billiri local government area of the state, has been arrested for stabbing to death a 30-year old man at a drinking joint.

The suspect, Ishaku Manaseh, male, (44), hails from Billiri LGA of Gombe State, was said to have killed the victim, Mela Andrawus (30), during a minor argument.

The police spokesman said that the suspect confessed to the crime and would soon be charged to court for prosecution.

“On 10th June, 2022 at about 12.30am, based on complaint received by the Divisional Police Headquarters, Billiri, that the above mentioned suspect who is a serving member of the Nigeria Immigration Service Billiri formation, criminally stabbed one Mela Andrawus, male, aged 30yrs, of Awai quarters, Billiri LGA, on his chest over a minor argument at a drinking joint in Billiri.

“On receiving the complaint, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and his team rushed to the scene where they succeeded in arresting the above suspect and took the victim to the Police clinic Billiri where he was certified dead by a medical doctor, a Knife was recovered as exhibit,” he stated.

Abubakar stated that several other suspects were arrested for committed various offences across the state stressing that they would soon be charged to court after investigations are concluded.

He said that the Commissioner of Police wishes to assure the Citizens of Gombe State that his administration is committed to their security and that “all criminal cases would be transparently investigated and charged to court to uphold the cause of justice.”
