Sacked Bauchi Speaker, deputy, 2 others, return to Assembly after rerun victory

The former Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Abubakar Suleiman, who was sacked from his position as the Member representing Ningi Central Constituency, has been sworn-in.

His deputy, Jamilu Dahiru, who was also sacked from his position as member representing Bauchi Central Constituency was similarly sworn-in.

NATIONAL ACCORD reports that the Appeal Court sitting in Abuja had declared the March 18, 2023 state assembly election inconclusive in 42 polling units affecting four Constituencies in three Local Government Areas and ordered for a rerun election in affected areas.

The Appellate Court’s judgement affected the Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly who is the immediate past Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, Abubakar Suleiman.

The Court declared the election in 10 polling units in the Ningi Central as inconclusive and ordered for a rerun in the affected PUs.

The deputy Speaker, Jamilu Dahiru, was also sacked from his Bauchi Central seat with the election declared inconclusive in 10 polling units.

The rerun was held on Saturday, February 3rd, 2024 by the Independent National Electoral Commission and all the four Constituencies were won by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party.

Following the receipt of their Certificates of Return from INEC, the lawmakers were swore into the Assembly.

The other two members who were sworn-in are: Dr. Nasiru Ahmad Ala, who represents Madara/Chinade and Yusuf Sa’idu also representing Zungur/Galambi/Miri.

The Clerk of the Assembly, Umar Yusuf, led the new lawmakers to take their oaths of office and allegiance on the orders of the Speaker, Babayo Akuyam, at the commencement of plenary on Wednesday.

Our Correspondent reports that with the swearing-in of the four members, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has 22 member, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has eight while the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has one member.
