Sen. Abdul’Aziz Yari (APC-Zamfara West) has flagged-off the distribution of 358 trucks of assorted grains to the less-privileged as Ramadan package.

Distributing the items at Galadima ward, Talata-Mafara Local Government Area on Monday, Yari said the gesture was an intervention to cushion the effects of current economic hardship in the country.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 358 trucks comprised items such as; rice, sugar and millet.

Represented by Sen. Tijjani Yahaya, former Minister of State, Foreign Affairs, Yari, said the intervention was meant to assist the needy to perform Ramadan fasting with ease.

“We are flagging-off the distribution of 358 trucks of assorted grains comprising rice, sugar and millet for 250,000 beneficiaries across the 14 local government areas of the state.

“This gesture is a Ramadan welfare package and it has nothing to do with politics.

“The beneficiaries are drawn from various categories of poor and needy irrespective of political affiliation”, Yari said.

According to him, each of the 13 local government areas of the state is to receive 25,000 trucks of assorted grains to be distributed to 17,000 households.

He further said that Gusau LGA would receive 33 trucks of assorted grains for 25,000 households in view of its population.

Yari urged the distribution committees at different levels to ensure justice and fairness while distributing the items.

He also appealed to Muslims to use the Ramadan period to pray for the restoration of peace and stability in the state and country at large.

Earlier, Alhaji Lawal Liman, the Chairman of the state distribution committee, said the gesture would cover all the 147 wards across the state.

Liman urged Muslims in the state to use the holy month to repent and cement their relationships with Almighty Allah to earn His favour “both here and hereafter.”

“Let us use the period to go close to our creator, by repenting and abiding by the teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

“We should also pray for Allah to reward the senator for providing succor to the needy”, Liman advised.

Also speaking, Alhaji Muttaka Rini, the Chairman, distribution committee, Zamfara West Senatorial District, commended Yari for extending kind gesture to the less privileged.

Rini said a total of 105,000 households from six local government areas of Zamfara west would benefit from the gesture. (NAN)
