Six killed, 2 injured in Bauchi auto crash – FRSC

The Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC), Bauchi Sector Command, has confirmed the death of 6 persons in an auto crash that occurred on Wednesday morning at Kwara village, along Tafawa Balewa – Kabwir road in Bogoro LGA of Bauchi State.

The FRSC Sector Commander in the State, Yusuf Abdullahi, told NATIONAL ACCORD that two others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

He however, said that the crash occurred at about 10.30am and the rescue team of the FRSC got to the scene for a rescue operation within an hour.

According to him, the crash involved a commercial Peugeot Boxer Pick-up, white in colour driven by one Ali.

Abdullahi said: “The crash was caused by a loss of control by the driver, one Ali.

“Immediately we got the call, our rescue team rushed to the scene and evacuated the eight victims to the Bogoro General Hospital for treatment and confirmation.

“It was there that a medical doctor confirmed six of them dead, while the remaining two sustain various degrees of injuries.

“The corpses were deposited at the mortuary after which they would be released to the relatives of the deceased for burial. The injured are being treated in the hospital.”

He charged motorists to be more careful while driving on the roads to reduce road traffic crashes.

Meanwhile, our Correspondent learnt that the victims were from Taraba State and were on their way to the Mararaban Liman Katagum market in Bauchi LGA when the incident took place.

Some of the victims were identified as Adamu Abdullahi (20) a native of Mararaba Liman Katagum and Husseini Dahiru Sarkin Kudu (25); the identity of four others remains unknown.

The Chairman, National Union of Road Transport Workers, Bogoro Branch, Bauchi Yakubu, said the accident took place when the driver whose name he gave as Aliyu Yakubu, wanted to avoid a pothole before the vehicle somersaulted.

“I received a phone call early this morning around 5am that a vehicle J5 conveying some people from Taraba to Mararaba Market in Liman Katagum, had a ghastly accident in Kwara village.

“We rushed to the scene of the incident and discovered that some of them had already died while some later died in the hospital. Their corpses are now at the general hospital,” he stated.

The driver Aliyu Yakubu and one Idris Magaji survived the accident and are still receiving treatment at the hospital.
