The South South Reawakening Group (SSRG), has commended President Bola Tinubu for his visionary and strategic decision to re-appoint Dr. Samuel Ogbuku as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
In a statement by its convener and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Community Development Committees of Niger Delta Oil and Gas Producing Areas, Joseph Ambakederimo, the Group also applauded President Tinubu’s “judicious selection of other eminent Nigerians who will serve as invaluable members of the new Governing Board of the NDDC.”
According to the statement, made available to NATIONAL ACCORD on Wednesday, both the SSRG and the Community Development Committees of Niger Delta Oil and Gas Producing Areas are pleased to witness Dr. Ogbuku’s continuation at the helm of the Commission for another term.
It noted that Dr. Ogbuku’s first tenure showcased remarkable competence, extensive experience, and unwavering integrity in his role as the MD/CEO of the NDDC.
“Driven by his leadership, the NDDC spearheaded exploration of collaboration on numerous infrastructural, environmental, social, and economic projects across the nine states of the Niger Delta region. These projects encompassed the construction of roads, bridges, educational institutions, medical facilities, power generation plants, water distribution systems, agricultural initiatives, skill development centers, youth empowerment programs, and vital environmental restoration undertakings.
“The commitment to transparency and accountability was further strengthened during this tenure, as the NDDC embraced international best practices in project management, procurement, auditing, and reporting. Collaborative efforts with key stakeholders, including the Federal Government, State Governments, National Assembly, Oil and Gas Industry, Civil Society Organizations, Traditional Rulers, Community Leaders, and the esteemed people of the Niger Delta region, contributed to the successful implementation of our endeavors,” the statement added.
While expressing its “unwavering confidence in the capabilities of Dr. Ogbuku and his esteemed colleagues on the Board to continue steering the Commission towards fulfilling its mandate,” the SSRG noted that the mandate entails the facilitation of rapid, balanced, and sustainable development within the Niger Delta region—a vision that encompasses economic prosperity, social harmony, ecological renewal, and political stability.
“We extend our deepest appreciation to President Tinubu for his discernment in recognizing the expertise, experience, and integrity embodied by Dr. Ogbuku and other esteemed Board members. These individuals have consistently demonstrated excellence and dedicated service in their respective domains. Rest assured, Mr. President, of our wholehearted support and unwavering cooperation as you lead Nigeria towards global prominence.
“Furthermore, we express our profound gratitude to all Nigerians, particularly the resilient people of the Niger Delta region, for their continuous support and goodwill towards the NDDC and its noble undertakings. As we look ahead, we implore all stakeholders to collaborate seamlessly with the new Board, ensuring the actualization of the Commission’s vision and mission for the prosperity of current and forthcoming generations,” the statement said.
