Taraba Peace Corps trains, deploys 4,500 personnel to school, others

The Commander Peace Corps of Nigeria, (PCN) Taraba State Command, Mr. Manti Daniel Manti has said expressed the readiness of the PCN to assist other sisters security agencies to curb criminality across the sixteen local government of Taraba State.

Manti disclosed this during an interview with NATIONAL ACCORD at the headquarters of the corps in Jalingo, Taraba State.

He said the peace corps has trained 4,500 regular and volunteer personnel in providing manpower in the area of security, both in private, public schools and other organizations through intelligence gathering.

Manti, reiterated that the cardinal objectives of peace corps is to ensure peace in communities, to prevent breakdown of law and order, in collaboration with other security agencies especially the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC).

Manti, stressed that the Peace corps has designed programs to assist in restraining attacks on schools, as well as restructuring the character of students, through Peace Club, Save schools initiative, neighborhood watch, intelligent gathering, Self-defense, Youth’s and Thuggery among others.

He appealed to the authority concern to allow the peace corps to fully participate in security activities and provide the designed programs for curbing menace in public schools among students.

Manti frowned at the attitude of students in public schools towards discipline, coming to school with knife and dangerous weapons.

He said students’ bad character exhibition, and indiscipline can be address through intelligence gathering, peace club advocacy, but not with the use of arms, which Peace corps has the capacity.
