Taraba stakeholders urge Kefas to prioritize security, return of IDPs

The Catholic Bishop of Wukari Diocese, Most Rev.Dr. Mark Maigida Nzukwein and stakeholders from Takun, Ussa and Yangtu LGAs have called on Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas to prioritize security of life and properties in the state to end the incessant crisis in the Southern Taraba and expedite action for the return of all the Internal Displaced Persons (IDPs) to their homes.

Bishop Nzukwein made the call in a statement issued to NATIONAL ACCORD after a joint peace meeting of stakeholders from the worried communities held in Wukari, Taraba State.

The statement explained that those communities affected during the crisis were Ibi, Kurmi, Donga, Takun, Ussa, Wukari, as well as Yantu special development area.

However, the forum resolved that the mind set and attitudinal change of the people to coexist peacefully with one another and shun the negative attitude of hatred most be encourage, both individually, in families, academic environment, worship centers, offices and traditional institutions.

It also appealed to the media to be vanguard of peace building, by using their medium as channel of communication in preaching peace and unity among neighbours, encourage development instead of hatred and violence.

It explained that media practitioners should design programmes and talk show in various languages in the affected areas to promote love and unity, disconnect from unbiased journalism, but be objective and truthful in their reportage over the happening within some various communities in Taraba State.

The group also reiterated that the peace accord negotiation should continue to engage critical stakeholders to proffer a lasting solution in ensuring peace and harmony among the people.

It therefore appealed to Taraba State Government to continue to sustain the peace building process in border States, such as Benue, Nasarawa and Plateau States respectively.
