Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has appreciated the support of President Muhammadu Buhari over his re-election victory for his second term in office.
Governor Zulum also thanked the executive members, stakeholders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and people of Borno State for their solidarity, commitment and support.
The governor stated this on Monday shortly after he was declared winner of the Governorship election by the Borno State INEC Collation- Returning Officer, Professor Jude Tsammani Rabo .
He stressed that his victory at the 2023 governorship election was a will of God and a destiny and gift from God. Who gives power to whoever He pleases or wishes and no creature would dare question or challenge the destiny of God.
The governor also expressed his gratitude to all the members of the Borno State House of Assembly who contested the legislative election and were victorious at the polls under the same ruling APC.
Governor Zulum, however, promised to redouble his efforts towards performing more that what he did in his first tenure towards bringing dividends of democracy to the door steps of the rural people.
He further pledged to provide livelihoods support to the resettled IDPs in their respective communities as well as create job opportunities for the teeming unemployed youths and women through vocational and skills acquisition training schemes.
He called on the opposition to eschew bitterness abd exercise restrain to join his government machinery towards redeeming the state’s fortunes and potentials .
The governor also solicited for the consent of the APC State Chairman, Hon. Ali Bukar Dalori to allow opposition parties that challenged the incumbent governor not to relocated to Abuja or any other place, hence Borno is their own state and collectively, could be salvaged.
He also reiterated his intention to checkmate the anti party activities of some of the APC members.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Vice President-elect, Senator Kassim Shettima has congratulated the Governor Zulum on his re-election bid as next Governor of Borno State.
He said that this is the second mandate given to the governor to stir the affairs of the state and take it to greater heights, adding that he has no doubt that Governor Zulum will again prove that he is greater performer.
Senator Kashim, who described Zulum’s re-election as a “humbling experience” for the APC , prayed God to grant him the wisdom, good health and generosity of spirit to move the state forward.
For the winners, Shettima said it should be taken as an act of humility while those who have been defeated should have the courage to accept defeat.
“The outcome of the elections is a reflection of the people’s choice across the country just like in Borno, Yobe, Lagos and other states where the All Progressive Congress won the votes of the people.
“It is normal in democracy to win some and lose some. Aggrieved parties are therefore advised to challenge the results in court”.
