1 killed as rainstorm destroys over 100 houses in Nasarawa communities

A heavy rainstorm has killed one, injured several others and destroyed hundreds of houses in Agbashi community of Doma Local Government and Aloshi community in Keana Local Government Area, all in Nasarawa State.

The incidents happened on Tuesday evening where houses and worship places such as churches and mosques, were badly affected in Aloshi community.

The Deputy Chairman of Doma Local Government Area, Mr. John Bako Ari, who confirmed the incident to newsmen, described it as unfortunate tragedy.

According to him, over one hundred residential houses were destroyed including the Agbashi Central mosque, part of Pilot Primary School Agbashi and several other public infrastructure.

“Is true that the windstorm destroyed over 100 houses including, mosque and Primary school, the incident happened yesterday in the evening,” he said.

Also speaking on the incident, Mr Anthony Oshinyeka, acting Chairman, Agbashi Development Association (ADA), also described the incident as unfortunate.

According to him, Bassa settlement in Iponu at the outskirt of Agbashi was badly affected as one man lost his life while seven others were also badly injured.

Similarly, in Aloshi community over 50 houses and worship places were affected, while many sustained various degrees of injuries.

Those affected in the two communities called on government to urgently intervene to cushion the devastating effect on the distressed people.
