By SADIQ ABUBAKAR, Maiduguri –
The Group Managing Director of NNPC, Alhaji Meleh Kyari has said the new 50 mega watts Gas Power Plant under construction in Maiduguri will be completed by November 2022.
Kyari stated this yesterday during an inspection tour at the site of the new 50MW Gas Power Plant in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
He said the Greenvillle Company signed MOU to supply 170 metric tonnes of gas, using 22 Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) trucks daily from Rivers State to Borno state.
“The project will be completed this year and ready for use by the general public including consumers”.
According to him, the LNG trucks will travel 1,700km from Rumuji in Rivers state to Maiduguri in Borno state on daily basis until the AKK project is launched next year 2022
Meanwhile, he said the Grenville will begin running a shorter distance from the new Kano gas depot to Maiduguri, adding that, “this 50MW turbine is said to be the best in the world.”
“In the event of a Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) supply-chain disruption, a gas reservoir is being constructed that would sustain the turbine for at least 10 running days”, Kyari said.
Work at the site was delayed few months ago due to importation of the turbines and other instruments as well as accessories but delivery has commenced two months ago, where work is said to be at advanced stage. Today it is about 65% completion stage as only installations and fixing remain while others are being mounted.
