The Federal Government has clarified that the Murtala Muhammed Expressway in Abuja has not been renamed Wole Soyinka Way, contrary to circulating rumors.
According to the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, the administration never considered renaming the expressway.
On June 4, President Bola Tinubu inaugurated a new road in the FCT, Arterial Road N20, which connects Outer Northern Expressway (Murtala Muhammed Expressway) to Northern Parkway (Ahmadu Bello Way) .
The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, proposed naming the new road after Wole Soyinka, and the President agreed.
Idris emphasized that only Arterial Road N20 was named after Soyinka, while Murtala Muhammed Expressway retains its original name in honor of former Head of State General Murtala Ramat Muhammed.
The government urges citizens to disregard misinformation and emphasized that the report of renaming Murtala Muhammed Expressway is entirely false.
