Position Summary
The Editor will provide strategic, editorial, and operational leadership for the newspaper. The role requires a dynamic media professional capable of driving editorial excellence, ensuring ethical journalism, expanding audience reach, and positioning the newspaper as a leading voice in Nigeria and beyond.
Key Responsibilities
Editorial Leadership
- Oversee the planning, development, and execution of all editorial content (print and digital).
- Define and enforce editorial standards, tone, and policies.
- Lead daily editorial meetings and supervise newsroom operations.
Content Strategy & Growth
- Develop and implement a forward-thinking content strategy aligned with audience needs and market trends.
- Drive investigative journalism, exclusive reporting, and high-impact storytelling.
- Expand digital presence through SEO, multimedia storytelling, and social media integration.
Team Management
- Recruit, mentor, and manage reporters, editors, and contributors.
- Foster a culture of accountability, creativity, and journalistic integrity.
- Conduct performance evaluations and support professional development.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Collaborate with management, advertisers, and partners while maintaining editorial independence.
- Represent the newspaper at public events, media forums, and industry engagements.
Operational Oversight
- Manage editorial budgets and resource allocation.
- Coordinate with production, design, and digital teams to ensure timely publication.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, English, or a related field (Master’s degree is an advantage).
- Minimum of 10–15 years experience in journalism, with at least 5 years in a senior editorial role.
- Proven track record in newsroom leadership and content innovation.
- Strong understanding of Nigerian media landscape, politics, and socio-economic issues.
- Experience in digital publishing and audience growth strategies.
