President Bola Tinubu and Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for congratulating him following his victory in the August 15 governorship election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially declared Adeleke the winner of the poll on Sunday, securing him a second term in office after defeating his closest rival, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), by more than 60,000 votes.
Speaking with journalists shortly after the declaration, Governor Adeleke revealed that President Tinubu personally called to congratulate him on his re-election.
Describing his victory as a triumph for democracy and the people of Osun State, Adeleke commended the President for supporting the democratic process.
“I want to seize this opportunity to thank Mr President. Mr President has called me and he has congratulated me, thank you Mr President for making sure democracy lives on because you fought for it,” he said.
Earlier, Accord Party chieftain Pelumi Olajengbesi had disclosed that President Tinubu reached out to Adeleke even before the official announcement of the election results.
Addressing journalists after INEC confirmed Adeleke’s victory, Olajengbesi said the President placed the congratulatory call on Saturday night.
“Let me tell you this quickly: even before the result was declared yesterday night, Mr. President called Mr. Governor and congratulated him, and that is good leadership,” he said.
Adeleke’s re-election marks another significant political milestone in Osun State, with the governor crediting the outcome to the will of the electorate and the strength of Nigeria’s democratic process.
